Work
I run a few Linux servers and write scientific software for researchers at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Interests
Interests are caving (with SUSS http://suss.caves.org.au), speleology, LaTeX (http://ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/scalebar) good coffee (I roast my own) and running a small farm with 50 alpacas. I run the Linux server for the Australian Speleological Federation at http://www.caves.org.au and maintain a cave database at http://www.caves.org.au/kid_intro.htm - this has about 6000 caves in the database and hundreds of database fields. It runs on perl and MySQL.
My personal web site is: http://www.speleonics.com.au/mikes/ and http://www.speleonics.com.au
I'll be giving a lightning talk on how my wife (Jill Rowling) and I use Linux to look after our alpacas.
